Launching The Personalised Sheepskin

Launching the Personalised Sheepskin

Six years ago I had the idea to embroider sheepskin. Then I had my son and all my ideas for this product were put on hold. When I did finally get back to looking the embroidered sheepskin idea I found it wouldn't be quite as simple as I first thought.

You can't fit a sheepskin in an embroidery hoop or a tapestry hoop, if you machine straight on it repetitively the skin will disintegrate. So patches were the only solution but there were more problems to solve - when you trim down the fleece so you can attach the embroidered patch it all bumpy. So trimming with a big scissors was tried, then a small scissors, then using hair clippers and back to the large and small scissors again. Finally, a product was beginning to take shape but this was a laborious task.

My initial vision for the sheepskin was to have large areas of the sheepskin covered in embroidery and so with the help and advice of Jenny King, I managed to produce a truly unique product.

That was over a year ago and this product has now seen its next development - The Personalised Sheepskin. I knew I wanted to make personalised sheepskin but it took me a while to come up with a collection I was happy with. I wanted the range to be modern, colourful, playful and a product that people would treasure. It also needed to share the ethical values of the rest of the brand. Be made locally, travel as little air/road miles as possible, be Eco friendly and be a quality product that will last the test of time.

Besides being a beautiful product sheepskin has some amazing qualities. Sheepskin fleece is naturally resistant to the growth of mould, dust mites, and bed bugs. It’s natural wicking properties, draw moisture away from the skin, also prevent bacteria to thrive. It contains a substance called lanolin which is like a waterproofing property that aids sheep in shedding water from their coats. It's kind to sensitive or inflamed skin and looks amazing over the back of a chair or a sofa.

So 6 years and a bit later the product I dreamed about making when leaving my last full-time job is ready to be launched with a new edition and I'm very excited.

The new Personalised Sheepskin is due to be launched on the 11th of October. Sign up to the newsletter to get a sneak peek before it goes live.
